Abstract:
When medical writing is outsourced overseas, the same quality and content standards are expected of offshore ESL writers as of native English-speaking writers. When offshore medical writing does not meet these standards, a company loses money and time, and in-house editors become taxed and frustrated. This research is being conducted to identify the characteristics that ESL workers need to successfully write medical documentation for a North American company. The study will evaluate the characteristics that most ESL medical writers have and compare them to job qualifications that North American companies require for native medical writers. Results of this project will be used to make recommendations that will help Company M find qualified offshore writers for its medical documentation.
