Childhood obesity is one of the biggest health risks for American school children today, and public schools are contributing to the crisis. As school districts face budget deficits, they increasingly rely upon vending machines and fast food contracts for additional revenue. The poor nutritional choices offered often exacerbate nutritional problems, since the majority of students eat at least two of their daily meals at school. Students need physical activity; however, districts across the United States are cutting back or eliminating physical education classes. This capstone includes an action plan for educators, parents, and students that can be used to implement changes and protect the health of our children.
