Transitions: Icicle and Other Creative Works consists of essays, poems, and one short story revolving around the theme of transition. This universal concept is experienced by humans, and also by nature, wildlife, and all living organisms. It is the transformation that comes out of a particular transition or series of transitions that is explored in these creative works. The short story, “Icicle,” examines the effects of a young mother’s post-partum depression. A changing natural world and its effect on humans and wildlife is the subject of the nature essay, “Paving Paradise.” The transitional experience of an aging parent is explored in “Being Ready,” a personal essay. The poem “Relief” reflects an elderly woman’s dying moments. Two flash nonfiction essays seek answers.
